PROFILE

I have written songs and played guitar for many years and in the early days jammed with my old friend and fellow squash pro Jamie Hickox who always encouraged my singing and song writing.

Jamie ran a Jam in Farnham in the late 90's and he would make me get there early so I could practice performing and give some of my songs a public airing.

In 2000 a chance meeting with pro drummer and guitar teacher Tony Smith (who sadly died recently). Tony taught me guitar and liked the way that I sang my own compositions so much that he put me in as the front man in a band with himself on drums and two of his other pupils Tony Hatch (Bass) and Richard Cracknell (Guitar) making up "The Disciples of Tone" !!

We played a ten number set at a couple of parties that went down a storm and things progressed from there. Tony replaced himself on drums with his 12 year old pupil James Van Dorp and James's father Nick played keyboards for us. Tony continued to coach "The Disciples" as they became one of the South East's leading function bands. In 2002 the fabulous guitarist Nelson Porter joined and really lifted the standard. Before long we were playing at top venues in London and partly through my contacts tennis and squash clubs all over the South.

I stayed with The Disciples until 2005 and then formed my own band "The Danny Lee Band".

The Danny Lee Band was formed in 2005 with Nelson Porter and girl singer Amber Harding. The aim was to bring together a bunch of talented musicians who have fun playing. Gradually the band included more and more of my original songs in our set lists and although my first CD "Just Fly" was recorded in Nashville the band soon added all of those songs to our repetoire.

The Danny Lee Band went through a few changes in personnel in the early years but there was never any ill feeling. The spirit and friendships are amazing. I don't think we've ever had a cross word in nearly eight years.

We have travelled to The Edinburgh Festival for the past three years and also play large gigs all over the country. The playing is tight and professional and everyone seems to have a good time. We must be doing something right.

To the current line up of Owen Goodwin on drums, Fox and Tony Hudson sharing bass duties, Nelson Porter on guitar, Jake Fryer on sax and Paul Wheeler on keyboards I thank you all for your support and fine playing.

So that's just a brief insight into my musical journey. Who knows what will happen next and where the music will lead me. My aim is to get people all over the world listening to my songs and hopefully they will get increasing airplay and maybe one day a song of mine may feature in a film or TV show "Who Knows?" !
